Planning permission has now been given to the Mission Group to build Ella, a 20 storey building at the corner of Ellis Street and Lawrence Avenue. The development permit for form, height and character variance was approved by the council on Tuesday, 25th July 2017. The building is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 or beginning of 2020.
This high-end 20 storey residential boutique-style residence will house 116 condominiums starting on the 6th floor, with retail stores on the first floor. This building is one of the few buildings in the North West of Kelowna that will be allowed to go above 6 storeys, so that sightlines in the future will not be compromised, with the exception of the new Hotel and Conference Centre proposed three years from now in the Kerry Park and City Park area of Downtown. This new hotel is to be 24 storeys but as it is tall and thin it should have limited impact on Ella’s views.

The North side of the building, from approximately the 8th floor, enjoys spectacular staggered lake views, including views of the downtown marina, as well city and mountain views, with angles of the morning sun and evening sun to enjoy on the balcony (D and D1 on the plans from the previous blog). The North West side also has exceptional views of the lake, as well as stunning mountain views (especially Knox Mountain) on both sides of the lake, as do the sunny South West units. From approximately the 10th floor, the South side has lake and sweeping views to the Mission and the mountains beyond. The East enjoys stunning views over the City to Black Mountain.
There are numerous restaurants and local boutiques nearby, as well as parks and hiking and biking trails, yoga centres, far too much to mention!
